Day Jobs for Writers

How many of you have day jobs?

I can’t decide if it’s helping me or hurting me. I’m a librarian by trade and have enjoyed it for the most part, but I’ve been doing it on and off for about 15 years. Yes, 15 years.

I don’t really fit in at my current work culture, and I’ve had to ask myself, “Is it me?” Well, it probably is, though I’ve gotten along just fine with everyone at previous jobs–even joined a volleyball team!–I just feel like an alien at the current job.

In some ways, it’s quite technical, so it’s nice to come home and be creative and have that balance. But there are definite downsides to it–none of which I’ll list here, though I had a wretched day and am tempted to vent.

If you have a day job as a writer, does it drive you crazy or hinder your process? Talk to me on twitter, too @femmebionic.
